Brooklyn, NY
Looking at Brooklyn, New York, USA, there is a large Italian-American population in Bensonhurst, which is considered the main Little Italy of Brooklyn. This residential neighbourhood had many Italian and Jewish migrants move to the neighbourhood prior to World War II, making the population being equally made up of Italians and Jewish people. In the 1940s there was an influx of immigrants from southern Italy moving in, which left the area to be predominantly Italian. In 2000, the census indicated that the community still consisted of over 20,000 that made up the Italian-speaking community.
This area includes many small Italian family-owned businesses, of which many have remined in the same family for many generations. There continues to be an annual Festa di Santa Rosalia in late August or early September, which attracts thousands.
