Luciano Pavarotti was an Italian music performer that was born on October 12th 1935, in Modena Italy.

He graduated from a teaching institute in Modena in 1955 and was an elementary school teacher for two years.

During this time, he was studying opera privately and it was when he won the Concorso Internazionale singing competition that he made his professional operatic debut in 1961 in Reggio nell ’Emilia, Italy.

Following this, he played in various opera houses throughout Europe and Australia. His first appearance in the United States was in Miami in 1965 and he later performed at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City in 1968. It was in 1971 that Pavarotti became a regular performer in New York. His presence in America allowed him to bring Italian opera worldwide, as he began performing to as many as 500,000 fans at a time.

After an excpetional life - rumor has it that only Pavarotti was granted silent permission to smaggle mortadella and tortellini across JFK customs - filled with art, success, and accomplishments, he died in Modena, Italy on September 6th, 2007. His legacy and role of true ambassador of Italian lirica in the world live on as he is known to be one of the finest bel canto opera singers of the 20th century.
